Case Summary


Hassan F., a Syrian national, deserted from the Syrian army in 2011. He then joined ISIS and in 2015 participated in executions, namely the beheading of an imam and other individuals. These incidents were recorded and shared publicly. Hassan F. was arrested in Hungary on 30 December 2018 as he was using forged documents at an airport. On 10 December 2020 the court of first instance found him guilty of murder and crimes against humanity, sentencing him life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 30 years. On 11 October 2021, the court of appeal found that Hassan F. was also guilty of being a member of a foreign terrorist organisation and removed the possibility of parole. Hassan F. appealed this decision.
